| How do I know if a Sweetfilter will solve my odor problem? This is the number one question asked. If the odor is coming from outside the structure and being pulled into the house we can help. Your neighbors usually smell it long before you do so ask them if they smell any outside odors and tell them about Sweetfilters. You can also test where the odor comes from by filling all your tubs and sinks with water. Then flush all toilets and empty the full tubs and sinks at the same time. Then go outside. If the odor is coming from outside the structure we can help. If odor is coming from inside the structure see situation alternatives below and also see MARYLAND UNIVERSITY INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SEPTIC ODORS EXPLAINED or UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA/WISCONSIN SEPTIC ODOR SOLUTIONS or the City of Clive, Iowa. How does the outside odor get into the house? This is the number two question asked. Whenever you operate clothes dryers, washing machines, sinks, toilets, furnaces (furnaces destroy the odors in the air they use), fireplaces, water softeners, bathroom vent fans, etc., your house breathes in stinky outside air and expells deodorized inside air. The only solution for you and your neighborhood (they usually smell it long before you do) is to buy a Sweetfilter. Doesn't the Sweetfilter restrict the airflow? The restriction is so slight (it has a pressure differential measured at only 1.15? w.g./ft @ 50 fpm or <1.0 " of water column at 20 cfm for the SF-110) that it does not interfere with normal venting of the plumbing system. How does heat or freezing temperatures and snow/ice affect the Sweetfilter? Some of our best regular customers since 2001 are the City/County of Honolulu and the the City/County of Juneau Alaska with more than 200 units installed. Need more info about our friends click here? Can the homeowner change or replenish the Zeocarbon bag in the Sweetfilter? Yes, because the Zeocarbon can only absorb so much gas, the Sweetfilter is designed with a low cost, easily replaceable insert. Purchase a replacement zeo-carbon filter insert online...... ZEOCARBON REFILLS What is the expected life of the Zeocarbon SWEETFILTER? Zeocarbon contains both activated carbon and a natural volcanic rock called zeolite. Zeocarbon lasts longer, up to 7 times longer because it does not cake and plug-up in high moisture environments like other carbon filter media . Common household chemical use (including bleach) increases the life of Zeocarbon while simpler chemically treated carbon media can be destroyed. Zeocarbon is designed to be recycled back to the ground as an ornamental fertilizer for carbon sequestering while most other types of chemically treated carbon media contain caustic materials or toxic metals that make them unsuitable as a fertilizer. Zeocarbon does have a maximum odor absorbing capacity and will last between 1 and 5 years, depending on your septic system. For example, if you put them on a restaurant they may last 1-2 years (for our commercial units see our Sweetfilter II at www.SweetAirFilter.com). If you put them on a residence they may last 5 years or more. |

| In what situations is the Sweetfilter used? For use in situations where the septic gas odor (hydrogen sulfide or "sewer gas") is coming out of the vent pipe on the roof. The Sweetfilter carbon filter not only traps sewer gases at the roof vent so they cannot escape into the air at all but it also means less air pollution from greenhouse gases, particularly ammonia , carbon dioxide (global warming) and hydrogen-sulfide, (the rotten-egg smelling gas), which the filter traps on a 18-24% wt/wt basis and used zeocarbon acts as an excelent source of nitrogen when mixed with soil. Even though the Sweetfilter is installed directly on and in the vent pipe, its design is such that it does not significantly impede air being drawn into the vent. Also for vents that are directly connected to the septic tank, pump station, landfill/compost, or municipal sewer. In many instances, city-sewer connections bring www.sewersmell.com gas into the home's plumbing vents which vent the gases out the roof vent and often down into the back yard where they can be drawn into the home. The Sweetfilter has proven beneficial in those cases too! |

In what situations will the Sweetfilter not work for me? The Sweetfilter WILL NOT solve your odor problems if: - Odors in the soil treatment area....the odor is originating from the drain field or mound (see www.septictankaerator.com to stop odors from drain fields)....however, if the odor is coming from an aerated sytem a SWEETFILTER II Commercial units have eliminated the problem in these systems. - Odors in the house....the odor is originating from any leaks in the septic tank or indoor plumbing (odor both inside and outside). If you suspect that sewer gas is leaking into your home from your plumbing, contact your local public health department. Try to get an inspection. Alternatively, you can call in a plumber to make sure the vent pipe on your roof is not plugged. DO NOT use "T" type roof vent pipe structures or solvent welded units that must be cut to be refilled, because they directly violate most state plumbing codes. Also, because sewer gas is highly flammable and very explosive (even a tiny electric motor spark will set it off...... plumbing codes won't allow electric vent fans on any septic vent stacks), don?t take any chances. If the smell is strong, get out of the house, call the fire department, and avoid striking matches or using electrical appliances. DO NOT INSTALL ANYTHING ON OR IN VENT PIPES IF YOU HAVE INDOOR ODORS..THIS COULD MAKE THE INDOOR PROBLEM WORSE. If the smell is weak or only occasional our BIOR monthly additive has solved these type of indoor odor problems with monthly regular use in every toilet/drain in the structure. |
